A Week of Self-Exploration

Welcome to another week of journal prompts! If you haven’t read my post about how I choose prompts for the week and why I started this journal, you can check it out here.
As I follow the journal prompts for this week I want to focus on awareness. More specifically, my self awareness and awareness for current events. I value being able to take care of my wants and needs, and I also value being able to advocate for, and help others. However, I have struggled to keep both a priority over the past few weeks. So my goal this week is to improve my ability to be aware of both myself and others at the same time. With each journal prompt I want to consider awareness by asking myself two questions.
What do I want to gain from journaling today? How does this prompt apply to the people and events present in my life?
Points to Remember While Journaling
As you journal, think about things that are most relevant in your life at that moment. These prompts serve as journaling motivation, and as you follow them, remember that you get to write about whatever you want. Preparing for journaling can be an important step in getting the most out of your experience. Personally, I like to make some tea, choose a nice pen to write with, or light a candle for some aroma therapy. Lastly, journaling can take as long as you want or need. It can be helpful to set a timer for yourself if you have a specific amount of time in mind.
Before you begin to write, focus on your breathing and take three deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. As you breathe, relax your shoulder’s, lengthen your spine, and clear your mind of outside thoughts from the day. Happy journaling!
This Week’s Daily Journal Prompts
Saturday Focus: Healing
If I had to name one emotion that seems to live deep in my core, it would be…
What might this mean for me? What might this mean about me?
Sunday Focus: Personal Boundaries
How can I feel safe to set that boundary and share it with others?
Monday Focus: Mindfulness
What is one thing that I committed to in the past (i.e. drinking more water, having a self care day, journaling) that I was proud of?
What is one thing I can commit to today that my future self will thank me for?
Tuesday Focus: Attachment
What are my beliefs around relationship endings? What influenced these beliefs?
Wednesday Focus: Awareness
What are 5 things I think I’m good at?
What are 5 things I think other people think I’m good at? Do the two lists match?
Thursday Focus: Trauma
Draw a picture of your happy place? Consider the who, what. when, where, & why.
Friday Focus: Self Care
Practice this pursed lips breathing exercise:
- Relax your neck and shoulders.
- Keeping your mouth closed, inhale slowly through your nose for 2 counts.
- Pucker or purse your lips as though you were going to whistle.
- Exhale slowly by blowing air through your pursed lips for a count of 4.
Try repeating these steps five or more times, whatever feels comfortable to you. Then, write about your experience with this breathing exercise. Was it relaxing or stressful? What thoughts came up while breathing?
Comment your experiences journaling this week. What worked for you? What didn’t work for you? I would also love to know what prompts you’ve used in the past or which prompts you’d like to see in future editions of “A Week of Journal Prompts”. See you next week!
